Public Utilities

Watkins & Eager has a long history of representing public utilities and participated in some of the early cases construing the Public Utilities Act of 1956, which established the regulatory structure governing public utilities in this State, e. g. Capital Electric Power Association v. Mississippi Power & Light Company and City of Clinton, Mississippi et al., 150 So.2d 534 (Miss.1963) and Mississippi Power Company, et al., v. South Mississippi Electric Power Association et al., 183 So.2d 163 (Miss. 1966).

More recently, the firm has represented gas, electricity, telecommunications, water and sewer utilities both before the Mississippi Public Service Commission and in their general business practices.  This has included regulatory approval of mergers and acquisitions, tariff and rate proceedings, certificate proceedings, regulatory rule dockets, regulatory arbitration proceedings, financings, labor and employment matters, interconnection agreements, franchises, litigation, contracts and corporate matters.
